Child sexual abuse - decision making for child protection professionals: a framework for post-investigative assessment
Course overview
This one-day course provides a framework for the post-investigative assessment of the parents and children in families where sexual abuse has been alleged but unproven, or where there is a known offender whose convictions were some time ago and there is a question about the safety of the children in the household.
Course aims
- To consider different types of adult male sex offenders and patterns of offending
- To consider the implications for the children they abuse, for non-abusing parents and family members
- To consider the interaction between a sex offender and child protection professionals
- To consider this within the remit of Department of Health Guidelines, the Children Act, and the concept of "likely significant harm"
- To consider the implications for child protection decision-making, practice and procedures
- To consider the implications for child protection decision making eg risk/safety, contact, the viability of family reconstruction
