Staff selection and the creation of an aware culture: consciousness raising

A training event focused on sex offenders in the work place and informed by research, the findings of national inquiry reports and by our own treatment programme for sex offenders.

Course overview

This is an awareness-raising course designed for those who are engaged in the selection, supervision and monitoring of staff engaged in working with children and other vulnerable groups. This may include those working in fostering and adoption placement, residential care, fieldwork, nursery and day care, health, education, youth work, leisure services, sports education and coaching and voluntary work, plus staff from the relevant human resources teams.

Course aims

  • The nature of sex offending
  • The modus operandi of sex offenders in the work place

To discuss the application of knowledge to:

  • Staff selection procedures
  • Staff supervision and monitoring
  • Day-to-day management systems - recognising potential problems within the organisation, particularly within the grey area of 'is this person a problem?'
