Adolescents who display harmful sexual behaviours

An introductory course for those working with, supporting or caring for adolescents and their families

Our one-day workshop will help you distinguish age-expected sexual development from those behaviours that raise concerns or present a risk to others.  It will be of benefit to social workers, police, carers, guardians, therapists and others working in the field of childcare.

This training course focuses on how and why young people develop inappropriate behaviours and gives you an overview of the key issues relating to identification, assessment, intervention, risk management and care.

Course aims

With a background working with young individuals, our specialist facilitators will explore:

  • Why and how adolescents develop sexually harmful behaviours
  • Some of the common facts and myths in such work
  • Frameworks and tools used in working with children, carers or families
  • Key issues in assessment, intervention and case management
  • Key issues for therapeutic care, managing risk and meeting need
  • Multi-agency task and responsibilities
  • When specialist assessment or intervention is required
  • Issues, dilemmas and advice about accessing appropriate services

The course is suitable for those with no previous knowledge or experience in this area as well as more experience professionals.  It will be of interest to social workers, police, therapists, education and health professionals, carers and anyone involved in the care and support of young people and families affected by child sexual abuse.
