Working with sexual offenders with learning difficulties

A course for practitioners working with offenders

Our one-day workshop combines practical insights with relevant techniques that can be used by probation officers, social workers, health professionals and workers in residential settings.

This training course explores some of the challenges in working with offenders who have learning difficulties.  It looks at practical treatment and management techniques that can be applied to your work and increases your understanding of:

  • The relationship between learning difficulties and sexually abusive behaviour
  • Strategies and exercises to support effective practice
  • Methods to help engage offenders in their supervision and treatment and help them meet everyday challenges

About this course:
With a specialist background in offender assessment, treatment and management, our course facilitators will examine:

  • The facts and myths surrounding learning difficulties and sexual offending
  • Working with sex offenders with learning difficulties and examples of good practice
  • Ways to engage sex offenders in treatment
  • How to plan and deliver effective intervention

Throughout the day, you will be given the opportunity to explore the issues through individual case studies and to discuss your own case examples.

The exercises covered include offence accounts, diary keeping, sexual knowledge, sexual boundaries and risk management.
