About You and the role
Discover how your skills and passions align with our mission in this exciting opportunity

We are looking for a data professional to support and manage significant changes in the way our charity uses, processes and manages data. Our teams pride themselves on evidence-informed practice, using research and data to enhance their work at every stage. There are elements of our charity’s work which are unique to our field, making our data highly valuable in contributing to the future of preventing child sexual abuse. We collect data all the time: on the individual progress of our clients, the reach of our campaigns and the demand for our support. As part of our new Tech and Data Strategy, we are taking the next stage in our use of data analysis and data science, ensuring that we use our data more effectively and efficiently to support our teams in preventing child sexual abuse.

We are looking for a Data Scientist/Analyst to help us make this change. You will be based in the LFF Research Team, reporting to our Director of Research and Impact.

This role will facilitate better use, processing and management of data across the organisation. It will focus on four areas:

  1. Data systems and structures: the postholder will assess and enhance the way our teams collect, process and manage data across the charity, including how our data is collated, stored and transferred, the role of automated, more efficient data handling, how data is reported and advising on relevant data software needs.
  2. Data analysis: we collect and store data on the contemporary nature of child sexual abuse, ranging from patterns in offending to the impact of preventive support. The postholder will add greater analytical capabilities to the Research Team, bringing together datasets in new ways, analysing and reporting on existing data and advising on new and better ways of using our data. We are committed to a shift to more advanced data analysis, including inferential statistics.
  3. Data visualisation: the postholder will be able to demonstrate new ways of presenting and visualising data on our reach and impact, supporting the creation of publications, reports to funders and other audiences and public campaigns.
  4. Data security and compliance: a smaller but important part of the role is to work with our Data Protection Officer to ensure that our data use continues to comply with relevant standards and laws and advise on and lead changes to our data security processes.

The postholder will work alongside experienced researchers to develop a new portfolio of priority projects to enhance our work. With no fixed task list or assigned service, this role offers the freedom to explore and innovate, identifying where data, data science, and data systems can drive real change.

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

Work flexibly across the organisation – The postholder will be able to work independently across the organisation to understand where data, data science and data systems can be used to best effect.

Advance data science in a mission-driven environment – We are looking for a creative, ambitious data analyst with a strong understanding of data systems, data security and compliance. This could be someone already experienced in a Data Scientist role in a charity, government or business, or someone working as a Data Analyst or similar who is ready to take on a more system-focused, data science role.

Work with diverse and meaningful data Whilst we regularly collect qualitative data, mostly we work with statistical data on who our services reach, people’s experience of services and our impact. Our work ranges from intensive, one-to-one support for individuals over months through to large scale public awareness campaigns on social media, so we have datasets on large and small scales. For instance, the data from our support programmes for adults who have offended is psychometric evaluation data collected before and after each programme, representing a few hundred data points. Whereas the data we collect on our online self-help resources represents the activity of hundreds of thousands of people each year.
