Our chat advisors are often the first port of call for young people who want to gain support and advice to deal with concerns relating to harmful sexual behaviour or experiences of child sexual abuse. Around 70% of young people using the service have not spoken to anyone else about their concerns – this means that the advisors play a significant role in providing a safe, empathetic and non-judgemental space for them to explore their worries and seek support.
The role includes:
· Providing emotional support and a non-judgemental space for young people to talk about their worries, creating a sense of emotional safety;
· Helping young people understand their sexual behaviour (or the behaviour of others), the harm it may be causing them or others and what may be driving it for them;
· Empowering young people to identify and put in place specific actions they can take to help their situation, increasing safety for themselves and other people;
· Advising them of resources available that relate to their circumstances and signposting them to further support;
· Referring young people for further support via our internal programmes.
This is a highly rewarding role within a friendly and hardworking team which is committed to keeping children safe from sexual harm. The role would involve working on our chat service two evenings a week, from 5:00-7:30 pm. Shifts are 2 hours long, followed by a mandatory debrief session with the duty manager.
You will be joining a hard-working, compassionate and driven team of advisors who are motivated to support young people to prevent child sexual abuse. Prior to starting on the service, you will attend training to equip you for the role and shadow the chat service. In addition, you will be invited to attend our regular reflective practice sessions, providing clinical support and opportunity for team reflection. You will be supported by a Duty Manager on every shift, to provide clinical oversight and support in your role.
Our chat advisors are home based and must have a private, confidential space in which to work with reliable internet (at your own cost). You must be based in the UK. We offer a NEST pension, 33 days’ annual leave rising to 38 days pro rata (inclusive of statutory bank holidays following qualifying period), up to 5 days’ learning and development per year, flu jabs, eye tests, season ticket loans, charity discounts, an employee assistance programme and the option of Benenden medical cover.
