Why do equality, diversity and inclusion matter to us?
The Lucy Faithfull Foundation works to protect children from all forms of sexual abuse. The Foundation’s people are committed to being there for all those who need us.
Children who are sexually abused, and the adults and young people who harm them, come from all backgrounds, communities and walks of life – and it is important this is recognised in our work and how we develop and deliver services.
Our 2025-2030 strategy builds on the success of our three established core pillars – reach, research and advocacy – embedding them as the foundation for our strategic aims and five key objectives.
We are committed to harnessing the talents and aspirations of all sections of our society in the prevention of child sexual abuse and have committed ourselves to:
- increase the number and the diversity of people we reach each year, commensurate with funding available, and
- to increase the number of people from diverse backgrounds in our staff teams and on our Trustee board.
We recognise there is still much to do and are committed to continuous improvement in our delivery of a diverse and inclusive service, championing the voice of lived experience and scrutinising our services to ensure they reach all.
What are our aims?
We want all our services to be available to and used by anyone who needs them, no matter their gender, culture, sexuality, sexual orientation and/or gender reassignment, nationality, ethnicity, ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, learning style, and past and present life experiences.
What are we doing about equality, diversity and inclusion?
- We have an equality, diversity and inclusion strategy and action plan in place, led by a director, to further embed these across the charity. The action plan is reviewed annually, and progress is reported to our staff and Trustees.
- We have an equality, diversity and inclusion policy to ensure equality, fairness and respect for all individuals who work for the charity in any capacity.
- Our recruitment approach places diversity at its core, welcoming applications from all sections of society, promoting a flexible working environment and an inclusive recruitment experience. We aim to recruit people from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
- We monitor the accessibility and effectiveness of our services for all sections of society.
- We audit the ability of our service delivery to provide an inclusive and diverse response so that services are sensitive to differences and use the skills and expertise of our communities in the prevention of child sexual abuse.
- We explore new ways for our beneficiaries to engage with us and receive our services.
- We listen to and involve our service users in the research, delivery and design of our services.
- Finally, we are developing a specialist prevention service for autistic people aged 16+ living in Scotland (funding secured until March 2028), working directly with autistic adults to better understand their needs and experiences. The learnings from the project will inform our approach across the UK and ensure our services are neuro-affirming.
- We support staff, managers and Trustees in harnessing all the talent in the organisation and engage staff to promote and celebrate diversity.
We embed the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion within the organisation and our Board of Trustees in order to deliver the charity’s public benefit.
- All our staff undergo equality, diversity and inclusion training to guide staff behaviours and strengthen leadership and role modelling around equality, diversity and inclusion.
- We conduct a regular staff survey which includes questions about how our staff feel the charity responds to matters of equality, diversity and inclusion.
