Making every step count: taking on the London Marathon 2025

Running the London Marathon has always been a dream of mine, but this year it’s about so much more than the challenge of 26.2 miles. I’m running to raise vital funds for the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, to help keep children safe, and that is what drives me every step of the way.

Child sexual abuse is a major public health concern affecting more than a million children under the age of 16 in the UK, and the Lucy Faithfull Foundation (LFF) is the only charity in the UK dedicated to stopping child sexual abuse, before it happens.

While you may not have experienced the direct effects of child sexual abuse, someone you know has lived through it. 1 in 10 children will experience some form of sexual abuse before they’re 16. LFF works with partners across different sectors to help prevent this from happening, because no child should ever experience harm.

At LFF, we believe that child sexual abuse is preventable, not inevitable. We provide a range of services to people who offend, their loved ones, children and professionals to ensure that children are safe from sexual harm. Our anonymous Stop It Now helpline can support any adult worried about a child or young person’s sexual behaviour. Our Shore website has anonymous advice and information for teenagers worried about their own or a friend’s sexual behaviour.

For me, this marathon is a powerful reminder that our actions, no matter how small, can have a meaningful impact. Every mile, every early morning training run, and every ounce of effort is a step towards creating a world where children are protected, supported, and given the chance to thrive.

The London Marathon is known for its electric atmosphere and the incredible spirit of the runners and supporters alike. It’s a day where people from all walks of life come together for the causes they believe in. Knowing that my run could help keep a child safe from harm fills me with determination.

But, I definitely need your help and support. Do you want to be part of my journey to help keep children safe from sexual abuse? Every small amount goes a long way and your kindness and generosity will help me reach my goal of helping to safeguard children.

To all the amazing people who have supported me thus far, thank you for making every step count.

If you’ve ever considered taking on a challenge like this, I encourage you to take that leap. If the intensive London Marathon isn’t your cup of tea, there are many other ways to help support our mission.

The journey isn’t always easy, but it’s worth every second to know that you’re making a difference.

Our team at LFF are ready and happy to lend a hand, every step of the way. Reach out to the fundraising team via supporters@lucyfaithfull.org.uk
