The latest annual report from The Lucy Faithfull Foundation demonstrates how we continue to pioneer child protection services.
It’s now 25 years since the foundation was set up by Baroness Lucy Faithfull, and in that time we’ve worked with children and their families, professionals, and people who are concerned about their own behaviour. We’re serious about creating a world where child abuse and exploitation is prevented, and we’re committed to working with everyone who can bring that about.
Last year our Stop It Now! Helpline gave help and advice to 5,329 people, we trained 1,592 professionals and 1,144 people attended our public education sessions. These are vital parts of our work to make sure everyone knows that child abuse is serious, illegal and harmful, and what they can do to prevent it.
Elaine McConnell, chief executive officer of The Lucy Faithfull Foundation, said it has been an exciting year but acknowledged challenges. She highlighted the fact that 2,746 people who called our Helpline were unable to get through as their calls went unanswered by our over-stretched service.
“We are committed to finding the resources which will enable us to meet the demand for this service so that all those adults can take action to protect children at risk,” she said.
Next year, we also aim to increase the number of people we help with our range of Inform programmes, our training and services, and our new online peer-support forum for the family and friends of those who have viewed indecent images of children online.
Our Stop It Now helpline, self help and programmes are there to help anyone concerned about child sexual abuse. Shore is for teenagers worried about sexual behaviour.
