Our collaboration work continues
In October, at the North Wales Disability Roadshow, we joined over 100 charities and partners to spotlight services supporting individuals and their families with additional needs.
Collaboration is key to our work in Wales, and to nurturing cross-sector partnerships to keep children safe from harm. From sharing expertise on preventing child sexual abuse with safeguarding leads at Royal Glamorgan Hospital to attending the Archdiocese of Cardiff and Menevia’s powerful “LOUDfence” event supporting abuse survivors, we’re making strides together.
Looking ahead, we’ll meet final-year social work students at Bangor University in February to continue spreading awareness.
Our supportive Action Group Members, who we meet quarterly will continue to shape our delivery across Wales.

Wales national delivery plan – preventing and responding to child sexual abuse
We are delighted to be working closely with the Welsh Government, key partners and colleagues across the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, on the new national delivery plan. This initiative marks a significant step forward in addressing and preventing child sexual abuse.
With development work set to wrap up by summer 2025, the Welsh Government is preparing to share the plan for wider community consultation across Wales. Together, we’re shaping a future that prioritises the safety and wellbeing of every child.

Saving Futures: Cross Party Group on Preventing Child Sexual Abuse
As joint secretariat for the group, we are delighted to welcome our new Chair, MS Buffy Williams to continue our partnership work.
Since the election at our AGM, the group hosted an event in July spotlighting vital projects, including the Lucy Faithfull Foundation’s Project Intercept, Barnardo’s Cymru’s Gobaith Project, and RASASC North Wales’ Don’t Steal My Futures.
We invite colleagues from across Wales to join our free online events held quarterly. For more information, please contact wales@lucyfaithfull.org.uk.
Why we do what we do
After five years of delivering life-changing projects across Wales, funded by the Welsh Government, we know how powerful feedback is in shaping our work and showing its impact on families.
Here’s what people are saying:
“I was supporting a client as an Independent Professional Advocate (IPA) to attend these sessions. My client has learning difficulties and I was concerned that the sessions would not be understood by my client. The facilitator was amazing. She adapted the sessions using plain and simple wording. She used pictures and made the sessions fun but professional. My client felt that he wasn’t judged and really enjoyed all aspects of these sessions. I would highly recommend.” From an advocate
“My children had engaged in HSB together and I wanted some help to work through that. They gave me the knowledge I didn’t have, the first time I have openly talked about this. I don’t really talk to anyone about it. The location was good and it was good that the sessions were spaced out over a few months. All been very helpful, I have got more knowledge and a plan, I felt a bit clueless but feel much better equipped”. From a parent
“Prior to referring my client. I did not realise what the service offered and the value to my client. My client was not aware of the different forms of abuse. And the fact that it could happen within the family was a reality check for her. Accessing the service free to my client was invaluable as I felt out of my depth and I do not have the expertise to support my client, so having support and tapping into the expertise of LFF was vital.” From a health visitor

How we worked to prevent child sexual abuse: our 2023/24 annual report
We recently published our annual report, highlighting the impact we had on child sexual abuse prevention in the past year and our plans for the future.
It tells of how our Stop It Now helpline helped more people than ever, and of how we supported hundreds of others through our services to tackle online sexual offending. 536 people contacted us saying that they had not harmed a child but were concerned about their sexual thoughts towards children and their risk of committing a contact offence. 279 others called because they had concerns about someone they knew who might be at risk of committing a contact offence.
“Vitally, it shows how we help prevent abuse before it happens.”
Our Shore website for young people worried about their own sexual thoughts or behaviour, or that of a friend was visited by more than 25,000 users and 106 people contacted us for help. Of the under-18s who contacted us, 72% had not yet spoken to a professional about what was worrying them, but felt safe to reach out to us for support and advice. Shore gives young people somewhere to go if they’re worried about their own or a friend’s sexual thoughts or behaviour. It has upfront, exact and reliable information, advice, and a chat and email service for teenagers to get anonymous, non-judgemental support. It’s made with, and backed by, young people themselves.

It also showcases the impact of our work in Wales. 19,970 users from across Wales accessed child sexual abuse prevention information from our Stop It Now and Parents Protect websites. The page with the highest engagement was ‘warning signs of abuse’. We reached 3,998 people through our education sessions, training sessions, webinars, consultations and newsletters.

Train the trainer new dates
We continue to deliver our train-the-trainer one-day training (across 2 dates) for professionals who are interested and are currently employed in a role where they can deliver preventative work with parents. This is a great opportunity for professional development, and we particularly welcome enquiries from practitioners who work with seldom-heard groups across Wales.
Dates: 29 and 30 January 2025 or 25 and 26 March 2025
National Safeguarding Week in Wales
Last month, we were busy delivering impact across both our key projects:
- through Early Intervention, we delivered 7 parent intervention sessions, and 2 sessions for young people
- our Public Education project tackled multiple areas of interest including the Practitioners toolkit, harmful sexual behaviour prevention, Professionals Protect, and 3 of our popular Digital Resilience sessions
We were delighted to engage with partners across Wales such as the Wrexham local authority staff, advocacy team TGP Cymru, Hywel Dda health board and the fostering team in Cardiff.
If you want to learn more about our projects, attend an upcoming session, or join us in our mission to create a world free from child sexual abuse, please email us at wales@lucyfaithfull.org.uk.
Explore our new websites
You may have noticed that our websites look a little different. Following our rebrand last year, we’re excited to launch our new and improved sites that not only better showcase our work, but allow everyone easier access to the help and support they need to keep children safe.

- details for people seeking training, assessments, intervention and consultancy to enhance skill development and guide professional decision-making
- information, research papers and resources supported by experts in child sexual abuse prevention
- advocacy updates where we press for fundamental system and policy shifts to enable a greater focus to be placed on the prevention of child sexual abuse
- our work in Wales and Scotland
Our new Stop It Now website has:
- our anonymous Stop It Now helpline
- our online self-help resources for anyone concerned about their own or someone else’s sexual thoughts or behaviour towards children.
- our intervention programmes for adults who have viewed sexual images of children or engaged in sexual conversations with children online, the family and friends of people arrested for online sexual offences against children and young people in trouble for inappropriate sexual behaviour online
