Supporting the Welsh Government's 10-year strategy

We’re proud to support the Welsh Government’s bold 10-year strategy to prevent and respond to child sexual abuse – a serious violation of children’s rights and a critical public health issue with lasting effects on survivors, families, and communities.

The vision is clear: all children in Wales should grow up free from the harm of child sexual abuse, and those affected should receive protection and lifelong support.

Launched on 16 July, the Welsh Government’s 12-week public consultation on the National Strategy for Preventing and Responding to Child Sexual Abuse (2025–2035) runs until 8 October 2025.

This comprehensive, whole-system approach focuses on prevention, protection, and support for children, young people and adult survivors.

This strategy will make a real difference. The Welsh Government are currently consulting with parents, carers, professionals and young people, and your feedback is vital too. Please share your thoughts by visiting the Welsh Government’s consultation page.

Train the trainer: new dates for your diary

We continue to deliver our train the trainer one-day training (across two dates) for professionals who are interested in delivering preventative work to parents. This is a great opportunity for professional development, and we particularly welcome enquiries from practitioners who work with seldom-heard groups across Wales.

  • Date: 20 and 21 January 2026 (9:30 am – 12:30 pm)*

*Must be available to attend both dates.

Working directly with at-risk families

We continue to deliver early intervention for vulnerable and at-risk families across Wales. Our Welsh Government-funded Early Intervention programme is available for professionals to refer families who they feel would benefit from bespoke prevention education.

It provides educational intervention for families identified as at-risk or needing early intervention with regard to child sexual abuse or exploitation. It also helps families create family safety plans and understand how best to protect children and young people from sexual abuse.

Please visit our website for more information or to download our flyers in English and Welsh. For details on how to refer a family or an individual, please contact us via wales@lucyfaithfull.org.uk.

Practitioners toolkit workshops

Join us for our upcoming workshop on how to use our Preventing Child Sexual Abuse: A Toolkit for Practitioners.

Upcoming dates:

  • 28 January 2026,
  • 25 February 2026, or
  • 11 March 2026

These sessions aim to equip practitioners with the confidence and knowledge to use the resources and information in the toolkit, and consider how best to support children and families, through a robust framework using case studies. The workshop is open to all professionals working in Wales who feels that they would benefit from our toolkit.

Elsewhere at the Lucy Faithfull Foundation: upcoming webinar

Our colleagues in England have been working to prevent harmful sexual behaviour in schools; and recently published their findings from their final year of a three-year project, Everyone’s Safer. The report outlines five recommendations for schools and policymakers to help keep children safe.

  • Date: 24 September 2025 (4:00 pm – 5:00 pm)

Join us to hear from author and academic Dr Emily Setty, school staff in the Midlands with whom we worked with on our Everyone’s Safer project, as well as our Lucy Faithfull Foundation team. We’ll discuss our five recommendations, how schools have already implemented them, and our plans to support every school across the UK to prevent harmful sexual behaviour.

Students have told us they want to be heard, included in solutions, and equipped with practical tools – not just rules. Staff have told us they need more support to move from fire-fighting to developing cultures of empathy and respect. Join us to hear more about how you can apply the support available in your own context.

Please get in touch if you want more information about our work.

You can also sign up to receive a notification when this page is updated and you will get regular updates from the Lucy Faithfull Foundation and Stop It Now including upcoming vacancies and new developments.
