Today, we’re launching a fundraising appeal asking you to call an end to child sexual abuse by supporting our Stop It Now helpline and helping us raise £10,000.
For over two decades, our Stop It Now helpline has been a lifeline helping over 75,000 people prevent child sexual abuse. But more and more people need our help, and we’re struggling to meet that demand.
“Every day I witness the impact our Stop It Now helpline has on individuals and families,” said Vicky Young, head of Stop It Now. “With your support, we can continue to provide this essential lifeline to those who need us.”
Our helpline advisors responded to a record number of requests for help last year, providing vital advice and guidance to protect children. Every 11 minutes someone reaches out for support to prevent child sexual abuse. But the increasing demand means many calls for help go unanswered.
“The helpline is a lifeline for many people – they don’t have anywhere else to go,” said Jennifer, who has been a Stop It Now helpline advisor since 2009. “If we’re not there for them, well that puts children at risk.”
Children who are sexually abused come from all backgrounds and walks of life, and that’s true of the people who harm them. Anyone could need our helpline. Every year, our advisors support thousands of people to protect children. Now, they need your help.
People must be given a safe place to talk about complex issues and take action to protect children from harm. We need your help to provide that.
We’re not an easy organisation to fundraise for. Why we do what we do isn’t always immediately obvious to everyone. But our work is vital, and it keeps children safe.
The cost of living crisis means that fundraising is difficult for lots of charities, and we understand that financial pressures mean not everyone can donate. But the importance of the Stop It Now helpline cannot be overstated. We need help from the public to raise vital funds, so that our incredible advisors can respond to more requests for help to prevent child sexual abuse.
“The impact the Stop It Now helpline has had on my life cannot be underestimated,” said Elliot, a helpline caller. “The advisors were non-judgemental and showed me such kindness during some of my darkest moments. I thank God for everyone who works on the Stop It Now helpline and the Lucy Faithfull Foundation. I’m eternally thankful for your support.”
Every call answered is an opportunity to protect a child from harm.
